
Fundamentals – Rat In Vivo Techniques
The Fundamentals: Rat In Vivo Techniques badge is an intensive training course for Rutgers employees to gain basic proficiency in lab animal rodent concepts and techniques used in research labs. Earner developed hands-on experience in rat handling, dosing, blood collection, anesthesia, and euthanasia. They also learned about lab animal facilities and caging, the role of the IACUC, animal behavior, health, euthanasia, and dosing calculations.

Earning Criteria
Required
Earner completed 8-12 hours of asynchronous online content and four 2-hour in-person training sessions. 100% attendance and scoring an average of 1.5-2 on all assessments. After completing the online content, they will attend the in-person portions, where they will be required to demonstrate proficiency in all covered techniques.
Utilized lab animal science concepts to perform basic hands-on techniques commonly used while working with rats, including handling, identification, dosing, anesthesia, blood collection, and euthanasia.
