
Fundamentals – Mouse In Vivo Techniques
The Fundamentals: Mouse In Vivo Techniques badge is an intensive training course for Rutgers employees to gain a basic proficiency in lab animal rodent concepts and techniques used in research labs. Earner developed hands-on experience in mouse handling, dosing, blood collection, anesthesia, and euthanasia. Earners gained knowledge in lab animal facilities and caging, the role of the IACUC, animal behavior and health, euthanasia, and dosing calculations. They also developed an understanding of principles for working with laboratory rodents, including laboratory rodent diseases, behavior, euthanasia, and other related lecture topics.

Earning Criteria
Required
Earner completed 8-12 hours of asynchronous online content and four 2-hour in-person training sessions. 100% attendance and scoring an average of 1.5-2 on all assessments. After completing the online content, they attended the in-person portions where they were required to demonstrate proficiency in all covered techniques.
Utilized lab animal science concepts to perform basic hands-on techniques commonly used while working with mice, including handling, identification, dosing, anesthesia, blood collection, and euthanasia.
